What is the difference between this socket and the surface mount version?

This panel-mount socket requires a round cutout hole in your panel or cabinet face — the socket drops in and the bezel holds it flush. The surface mount version sits on top of the surface without a cutout. Panel mount gives a cleaner, more integrated look; surface mount is easier to install without tools.

Can I charge a fridge or pump from this socket?

This socket is rated 10A, which is sufficient for USB chargers, phone chargers, small LED strip controllers, and 12V accessories. For a compressor fridge (which can draw 4-8A) it's fine as a temporary connection, but a fridge should ideally have its own dedicated fused circuit wired directly from your fuse block rather than through a socket.

Does this socket fit standard 12V lighter plugs?

Yes. It accepts standard 12V cigarette lighter-style plugs, which are the most common plug type for 12V accessories including portable fans, tyre inflators, and power inverters. Pair it with a dual USB charger plug for convenient device charging at any point in your van.
