Keep the chill out and the comfort in with this reflective foil bubble insulation — the same material used in Vanlifer's own campervan builds across New Zealand.

The 1500mm wide roll covers 7.5m² and combines a 3mm polyethylene bubble core with a single layer of aluminium foil that reflects up to 96% of radiant energy. It resists conduction, convection, and radiant heat, with R-Values between 1.0 and 2.0 depending on installation. Lightweight, flexible, and easy to cut — it tucks into walls, ceilings, floors, and awkward nooks without eating into your interior space.

Specifications

• 1500mm wide × 5m long (7.5m² coverage)
• 96% radiant reflectivity
• R-Value: 1.0–2.0
• 3mm polyethylene bubble core
• One-sided aluminium foil
• Acts as both thermal break and vapour barrier
• Cut oversize to protect product during shipment

DIY-friendly. Cuts with scissors or a knife, adheres with foil tape, and sits flat behind ply panels or under flooring.

People are asking

How does reflective foil bubble insulation work?

Reflective foil bubble insulation works by reflecting radiant heat rather than absorbing it. The foil surface reflects up to 97% of radiant energy, while the bubble layer adds a small air gap for additional thermal resistance. It is most effective against radiant heat gain in summer and heat loss in winter when there is an air gap on at least one side.

Is reflective foil insulation enough on its own for a campervan?

It works well as a secondary layer, especially on the roof and sliding door where radiant heat is the main issue. For full comfort across NZ winters, pair it with a thicker product like sheep's wool or foam board in walls and floor. Vanlifer uses reflective foil in its own builds as part of a layered insulation approach.

How do I fix reflective foil insulation to a van?

It can be fixed with spray adhesive, staples, or tape. For van walls, spray adhesive or double-sided tape works well. For the roof, use spray adhesive applied to the foil and the van surface, press firmly, and allow to tack before releasing. Always leave an air gap on at least one side for best performance.
