What is an ANS fuse used for?

ANS (also called MIDI or MEGA) fuses are used to protect high-current circuits in 12V systems — typically between the battery and an inverter, DC-DC charger, or main fuse block. They are a more compact and reliable alternative to blade fuses for circuits above 30A.

How do I choose the right fuse size?

Choose a fuse rated to protect the cable, not the appliance. Find the current-carrying capacity of your cable and select a fuse slightly below that rating. For example, 6mm² cable rated at 50A should use a 50A fuse. This protects the cable from overheating if there is a fault.

Where should the fuse be installed?

Always install the fuse as close to the battery positive terminal as possible — within 300mm if practical. This protects the entire cable run from the battery to the load. Use an appropriate ANS or MIDI fuse holder to house the fuse securely.
