Victron Energy SmartShunt 500A/50mV Battery Monitor
Victron Energy SmartShunt 500A/50mV Battery Monitor
SKU: EL270
Take complete control of your power setup with the Victron Energy SmartShunt 500A. This display-free battery monitor uses your smartphone as the interface — accurate state-of-charge tracking, built-in Bluetooth, and a 500A shunt capacity that suits the largest campervan and off-grid lithium battery banks.
Benefits:
• 500A shunt capacity — suits high-current lithium battery banks and large inverter setups
• Built-in Bluetooth — monitor state-of-charge, remaining time and history via VictronConnect app
• Auxiliary input — monitor second battery voltage, midpoint or temperature
• VE.Direct port — integrates with Cerbo GX for whole-system monitoring and VRM
• Compact, display-free design — no dashboard cutout or display mounting required
• Works with lithium (LiFePO4), AGM, gel and flooded lead-acid
Features:
The SmartShunt 500A is the larger-capacity version of the SmartShunt 300A — offering the same display-free, smartphone-based battery monitoring with a 500A shunt for installations with larger battery banks or higher peak current draws from inverters and appliances. No physical display is included; monitoring, configuration and history are all accessed through the free VictronConnect app via Bluetooth. The auxiliary input supports a second battery voltage (ideal for starter battery monitoring), midpoint voltage, or temperature measurement with an optional sensor. Connect via VE.Direct to a Cerbo GX for remote monitoring through Victron's free VRM portal. Suitable for 12V, 24V and 48V systems.

For smaller battery banks (up to ~300A peak), see the SmartShunt 300A. For a dedicated panel display, see the BMV-712. Pair with a SmartSolar MPPT 100/50 for high-output solar and a Victron MultiPlus for a complete off-grid system.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need the 500A SmartShunt or will the 300A be enough?
Choose based on your peak discharge current, not just battery capacity. The 500A shunt handles momentary peaks up to 500A — common in systems with a large inverter (e.g. a 3000W inverter on 12V draws up to 250A continuously, with higher surges). If your inverter or load could draw over 300A at any point, choose the 500A. For most systems with a 1600VA or 2000VA inverter, the SmartShunt 300A is sufficient.
Can I monitor my starter battery with the SmartShunt 500A?
Yes — the auxiliary input on the SmartShunt can be configured in VictronConnect to display a second battery's voltage (your starter battery) alongside the main leisure battery state-of-charge. This gives you a complete picture of both battery banks from one device. For a dedicated dual-bank display, see the BMV-712.
Is the SmartShunt suitable for a large lithium battery bank?
Yes — the SmartShunt 500A is ideal for lithium (LiFePO4) systems. Set the charge efficiency factor to approximately 0.99 in VictronConnect (lithium batteries are nearly 100% efficient vs ~85% for lead-acid). Configure your battery capacity and the SmartShunt will give you accurate state-of-charge readings across your full charge/discharge cycle. For lithium battery installation, see our lithium battery upgrade service.
