Victron BMV-700 Battery Monitor
Victron BMV-700 Battery Monitor
SKU: EL034
A proper fuel gauge for your campervan battery. The Victron BMV-700 is a high-precision battery monitor that tracks voltage, current, power, amp-hours consumed and state of charge — so you always know exactly how much battery you have left and how long it will last.
Benefits:
• Accurate state-of-charge percentage — far more useful than voltage alone
• Remaining time display — shows how long until flat at current draw rate
• 500A shunt included and ready to install
• Programmable alarm and relay — alert when battery gets low or trigger a generator
• VE.Direct port for integration with Cerbo GX or Bluetooth dongle
• Wide voltage range — 6.5–95V covers 12V, 24V, 36V and 48V systems
• Stores historical data for analysis of battery usage patterns and health
Features:
Battery voltage alone is a poor indicator of state-of-charge — it varies with load and temperature and doesn't tell you how much energy remains. The BMV-700 solves this by integrating current in and out of the battery continuously, giving you an accurate amp-hour count and state-of-charge percentage at all times. The round 63mm display flush-mounts in your dashboard or panel and shows live voltage, current, power and state-of-charge at a glance. The programmable relay can be wired to sound an alarm, shut off non-critical loads, or start a generator when the battery reaches a set threshold. The 10m cable run between shunt and display gives good flexibility in van layouts. Connects to Cerbo GX via VE.Direct for full system integration and remote monitoring via Victron's free VRM portal. Frequently Asked Questions
Why is a dedicated battery monitor better than just watching voltage?
Voltage alone is an unreliable indicator of battery state-of-charge. Under load, voltage drops significantly even from a full battery; at rest, it recovers and can look deceptively healthy. The Victron BMV-700 integrates current in and out continuously using a precision 500A shunt, accounting for temperature and Peukert's law to give you a genuine percentage reading. You know whether you have 80% or 20% left — not just that the voltage looks "about right."
What's the difference between the BMV-700 and the BMV-712?
The main difference is Bluetooth. The BMV-700 requires an optional VE.Direct Bluetooth dongle (sold separately) for smartphone monitoring; the BMV-712 has Bluetooth built in and adds a second input for temperature or second battery voltage monitoring. Both monitors have the same core accuracy and features. If you plan to use the VictronConnect app regularly, the BMV-712 is the more convenient choice.
Does the Victron BMV-700 work with lithium (LiFePO4) batteries?
Yes — the BMV-700 is compatible with lithium iron phosphate, AGM, gel and flooded lead-acid batteries. Lithium-specific settings (charge efficiency factor, Peukert exponent, current threshold) are adjustable via the front panel buttons or the VictronConnect app with a Bluetooth dongle. Correct configuration is important for accurate state-of-charge readings on lithium.
Can the BMV-700 monitor my starter battery as well?
The standard BMV-700 monitors one battery bank via the included 500A shunt. The BMV-712 has a second input that can simultaneously display a second battery's voltage — ideal for monitoring both your starter and leisure batteries from one display. Both models connect to a Cerbo GX via VE.Direct for full system integration.
